Stud Rail Project in Milwaukee: Corners of Brookfield

Currently in construction in Milwaukee WI, Corners of Brookfield is one of the largest mixed-use retail projects in the US. Built on a 19 acres site, the project includes 1500 parking spaces, a 140 000 square ft Von Maur store and 550 000 square feet of corporate office and technology space. The project requires a sizable concrete structure which was designed with stud rails at most column locations. Stud rails were supplied by Peikko USA.

"We came looking for Peikko to deliver the quality product we needed in a timely manner and at a fair price. Not only did they do that, but their customer service and other personnel were friendly and helpful’’ explains Jared McDaniel, Senior Project Manager at Tri-North. "Peikko did an excellent job at meeting our aggressive concrete schedule and working with us on unique stud rail applications that were not within the normal applications." McDaniel adds. Some of the stud rails used had a height of 26": these sizable rails were required due to the projects" thick podium slab. "As a family run business, that quality showed in our interactions with Peikko. We are very satisfied with our experience and will definitely be working with them again on our future concrete projects." Stud rails were produced in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.

The project was designed by Pierce Engineers in Milwaukee. A 16"-26" thick post-tensioned slab was required in most areas of the structure due to clear spans often reaching 36 ft combined with a live load of 150 psf. Through the use of stud rails, Pierce Engineers was able to keep the same slab thickness around columns.
